Dog On-boarding Process

The on-boarding process for dogs at my home involves a two-step approach.

I start with a meet and greet session allowing dogs to familiarize themselves with the environment and build positive associations, followed by a test night where they stay overnight without owners to assess comfort levels.

This process ensures a smooth transition into my care.

Often there will be other dogs present, this will only be done with dogs I trust completely.

Step 1 is required for All Services*

Step 2 is only required for Hotel Services.

*Dog Walk recommended.

Step 1: Sniff & Smile

The Meet & Greet (1 hour)

Objective:

My hope and idea here is that by having you and the dogs in my house this will allow the dog(s) to familiarise themselves with my home environment.

With you present you represent a mobile safe space which facilitates interaction between the dog(s), their owners, and myself.

Lastly I want to create positive associations and memories for the dog(s) in my presence.

Process:

  1. Owners bring the dog(s) to my home for the meet and greet session.

  2. During the hour-long session, the dog(s) are encouraged to explore and smell around the house.

  3. I engage with the dog(s) and their owners, ensuring a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.

  4. The focus is on building rapport and trust between myself and the dog(s).

  5. After the meet and greet, the dog(s) leave with their owners, ending the session on a positive note.

The Goal:

Your dog leaves with a happy memory of a friendly face and a new place to explore.

Step 2: A Cozy Night

A test night/day (24 Hours)

Objective:

Here my goal is to separate your dog from your comfort zone and assess the dog(s) behavior and comfort level in my care without their owners present.
So far the best results I have had are for an evening drop off, so I can feed the dog and then leave them in a safe and secure environment for the dog(s) overnight. Late night walk.
This I hope will allow the dog(s) to wake up feeling reassured and relaxed in my presence, before a day of other dogs and activities.

Process:

  1. Following the meet and greet, a few days apart, the owners bring the dog(s) back for the test night.
  2. The dog(s) spend the evening and overnight at my home, without their owners present.
  3. Throughout the night, I ensure the dog(s) are comfortable and attended to as needed.
  4. The morning after, the dog(s) wake up in a familiar environment, fostering a sense of safety and security.
  5. Upon waking, the dog(s) are returned to their owners, completing the test night process.

The Goal:

Your dog wakes up feeling relaxed and familiar with their temporary home, fostering a positive transition into my care.

The Result:

By implementing this two-step on-boarding process, I aim to facilitate a smooth transition for the dog(s) into my care.

Positive interactions, familiarization with the environment, and overnight stays help establish trust and comfort between myself and the dog(s), leading to a successful on-boarding experience.
